Li-ion Batteries for Solar Cars
Solion developed custom built Li-ion battery systems for solar racing car teams. The system used the SAFT HE 41 Li-ion battery that was considered among the best batteries for solar car racing in the world. Several systems have been exported to the USA, Middle-east and Germany.
Solion developed a battery management system that passed the stringent safety rules of solar car race organisers. Solion overcame the problems by designing a simple system that combined a specialist (Siemens) discriminator chip with fuses temperature switches and clever logic control circuitry. The result was a system that worked efficiently was cheap and passed the regulatory requirements for safety. Solion built the complete battery system including the enclosure, wiring, electronics and testing. The Li-ion batteries were used in solar cars racing across Australia and the USA in some of the World's harshest environments.
Li-ion batteries for industrial applications
There is a gap existing in the UK market for the use of Li-ion batteries in industrial applications requiring high power/weight ratio. In the last year, Solion has constantly received enquires regarding Li-ion batteries from various industrial sectors. As a result Solion at the moment is developing new systems for a small manufacturing company, which specialise in the manufacturing of inspection vehicles for water filled pipe and under water tunnels. We are in the process of fulfilling this order, which is going to be the test case for expanding in this huge market, which could extend to the oil and gas, mining and high-tech specialised products industries.
